About Nazan Fikret Soprano
Nazan (MMus/BMus) is a Guildhall trained soprano, teaching for over 15 years (all ages and stages!) and balances tuition with her flourishing performing career, with leading UK and European opera houses. She teaches from her home studio as well as online.
Obtaining BMus First Class, and Masters with Distinction from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Nazan is a versatile and highly regarded performer and educator. She can teach (and sing with authenticity) Classical, Musical Theatre and Pop. Students have ranged from age 6-66; from complete beginners, those wishing to take ABRSM/LAMDA and equivalent exams, through to pupils wishing to pursue a performing career. Many students have gone onto be professional performers in the West End and in Opera houses. Nazan has a 100% pass rate (all at Distinction and Merit level) for examinations. All students build confidence, varied repertoire and focus on vocal technique and stamina. Additionally, she passionately believes in teaching acting through song, and encourages students to really connect to text and emotion. This can particularly help with nerves/stage fright, as well as making the singer engaging and dynamic.
What you can expect from lessons:
-to have fun and to feel confident to be yourself, speak and sing freely
-teaching from an experienced, patient and knowledgable person, with an active performing career and wealth of knowledge of the arts and education
-to build your vocal technique: breathing, posture, range, stamina, singing in foreign languages (if desired), diction and projection
-to draw on teacher’s knowledge of opera, classical song, musical theatre and pop repertoire
-use huge range of sheet music and vocal scores (you probably won’t need to buy any music) and can make legal rehearsal copies for you
-discipline, motivation and structure to guarantee progress and to feel a sense of achievement at any level
Nazan has an active and varied performing career, namely in opera. She has been a principal for all the main UK companies: The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, English Touring Opera. She has also worked extensively in Europe. Prior to and alongside her opera, she trained as a “stage school kid” in Musical Theatre, and regularly performs this repertoire in concerts and in recording.
