Teacher of bass guitar
Patrick teaches beginners to advanced students from the age of ten upwards. Areas covered include technique, mastering different styles of music, music theory, sight reading and aural perception. A typical lesson would involve work on technique and mastering the fundamentals to allow you to reach your full potential, and also working on learning to play a piece appropriate to the student's level. Patrick teaches all styles but particularly specialises in rock, pop, funk, soul and reggae.
For a first lesson the most important thing would be to establish the level you are at, as well as getting to know you and finding out what you want to achieve as a bassist. For a beginner, the early lessons would be largely focused on getting to know the fretboard, basic theory and getting the fundamentals of technique down. For more advanced students it would be a case of going straight into learning new pieces and finding ways to take their playing to the next level.
For anyone who is at the start of their journey of learning bass the following things would be really useful to have at their first lesson:-
-A bass (it sounds obvious but you'd be surprised)
-A small practice amp and lead
-A digital tuner
-A smartphone or tablet with a metronome app installed (there are tons of them and most of them are free to download)
