About Mira
Hi! Nice to meet you :) I'm someone who loves music and wants to share that love with my students. If you have fun, then I've succeeded.
About me
I'm Belgian-Korean, and have lived in Belgium, the U.S., and the U.K. As a result I can speak many languages and have a deep appreciation for culture and the arts from all over the world. I have been playing violin and piano since I was about 5 years old and have always grown up with music in the house as both my parents were musicians. Although I may not always have lived in the U.K., I am very familiar with the English education system as I attended secondary school here. I ended up loving music so much that I decided to study it at uni, getting a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and then a Master of Music in violin performance from the Royal College of Music, both with the highest distinction. I have three younger siblings, so I love working with and have lots of experience being around kids, but I'm interested in teaching people of all ages! Apart from teaching instruments, I have also been a music theory and music history tutor and am more than happy to teach these subjects as well.
Teaching style
What I want most of all is for my students to enjoy what they're learning. The best teachers I have had are those who could inspire a genuine love and interest for the topic they were teaching, teachers who made it fun to learn, and this is what I always set out to do when I teach. I approach each student individually and try to cater my teaching to how they prefer to learn. In our first lesson I will want to learn about you! A bit about who you are, what you like to do, why you want to learn the instrument/subject, how you prefer to learn/study, how familiar you already are with the instrument/subject, and then we'll journey on together. To me, this is very much a collaborative process, where we figure out together how to best uncover this wonderful world of music.
