About Miles

Music is my passion and I love helping others learn, be they 7 or 70, into rock or the baroque. For 25 years I was a secondary school head of music teaching across the 11-18 age range. I taught GCSE and A level as well as directing and arranging for ensembles.

I can find out what pupils need and tailor lessons individually. Pupils learn best when they are actively engaged and are challenged by focused questions and realistic goals. There is always a good pace to lessons and the time goes quickly. My belief is that one must teach music through the piano, voice or theory rather than solely instrument-specific skills; in other words, listening, composing, improvising and theory come into any lesson. I regularly prepare pupils for ABRSM, TCL and LCM exams. I also support GCSE and A-level pupils with aspects of those courses.

I have been a member of the BBC National chorus of Wales for nearly two decades gaining wide experience of choral singing and repertoire.
