Meriel is a qualified and experienced music teacher, holding a BA (Hons) Degree in Music and Education (Leeds University) , PGCE (University of Wales, Newport) and DipRWCMD (Welsh College of Music and Drama). She is passionate about helping her pupils to reach their musical potential. She is an experienced singer and folk violinist, and has been teaching for over 17 years. Her lessons are informative and fun, with an emphasis on learning correct posture, building a strong technique, and improving confidence in performing. Her pupils have gained 100% success in their exams and are able to move forward confidently with their musical aspirations.

Music has always been a large part of my life. I spent my youth singing in choirs, playing violin and working my way through all the ABRSM piano and singing exams. I later studied music at degree level, with piano and singing as specialist instruments. I followed this training with a postgraduate diploma in performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a postgraduate certificate in education. More recently I trained as a yoga teacher, and I now bring some yoga breathing techniques into my singing lessons and emphasise a relaxed posture.
I have taught music for 11 years. I have also performed as a singer in the UK and in Europe. My pupils have had great successes in their ABRSM exams – many with distinctions. Other pupils have been successful in their auditions for various productions and university courses.I enjoy teaching adults as well as children.
In singing lessons you will learn how to build up a solid technique to enable you to sing your choice of genre. I am experienced in teaching musical theatre, popular, folk, classical and jazz repertoire.
I try to make my lessons relaxed and informative with a sense of fun. If you would like to learn from scratch for enjoyment, or towards a specific goal I can help you make your dreams a reality.
