About Melanie
Melanie is a versatile and enthusiastic violin teacher for all levels. A big part of her teaching has developed through her own learning journey with the violin. In learning the violin, she values the importance of technique as well as creative, musical development - combining the physical and artistic sides of violin playing. During a lesson she will therefore touch on technical exercises, work on musical pieces and stylistic development and include some improvisation. Her approach is tailored to each individual student and above all, encouraging.
Melanie has a wide knowledge of the violin repertoire and is happy to work on a student’s piece of choice as well as suggest suitable works for different levels.
She has experience teaching all levels and ages, as well as working towards ABRSM grade exams and can fluently teach in English, Dutch and French.
She is a Benedetti Foundation Instrumental Ambassador and teaches her private students as well as her students at the Southwark Music Service.
About Melanie
Melanie’s career as a modern and baroque violinist is diverse as she is passionate about different musical genres and collaborations with different art forms. She is an award-winning chamber musician, most recently obtaining the St James Prize with the Picea Quartet, and performs with Lavyn Ensemble, exploring the repertoire for violin and cello. Her international orchestral experience includes playing at the BBC Proms, Barbican, Bozar, De Doelen and the Oriental Arts Centre Shanghai. She regularly performs with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. As a historical performer, she has performed alongside the Academy of Ancient Music and with ensembles as the Cambridge Handel Opera Company and 18th Century Sinfonia. Melanie is a member of the Theresia Orchestra with whom she tours around Europe regularly as well as the 2023 Early Career Artist with the Instruments of Time and Truth.
Additionally, she performed with Whitney, Ambrose Akinmusire and the Amazing Keystone Bigband, collaborated with dance and theatre such as “VENN” by Side Larbi Cherkaoui and created her own show with original film “Melancholia”. She is passionate about improvisation, having learned with David Dolan, Robert Levin and Yves Senden.
