Silly yet serious, relaxed yet focused. Sessions are built around the areas YOU want to improve in, and taught in a way that will bring out the best in YOU.
**CURRENTLY FULLY BOOKED UP. BUT PLEASE STILL CONTACT ME IF YOU WISH TO GO ON MY SHORT WAITING LIST (note, waiting time currently estimated at 3 months, i.e mid June) THANKS! **
Meg is a Cambridge based singer/songwriter with Tiger Blue, theatre-maker and creative arts facilitator.
With more than 2 decades of performing and recording experience across London, East Anglia and the South, she has shared stages with artists as varied as Joan Baez and Groove Armada; with bands, choirs, theatres and as a soloist, in styles spanning dance music vocals, blues, soul, folk, jazz, indie, rock, classical, musical theatre, avant-garde and pop.
She has taught singing to, and brought out creativity in, people of ALL ABILITIES and ALL AGES through:
• Individual coaching, both *face-to-face and online using Zoom.
• Primary and secondary school settings
• **Community adult learning programmes
• her own theatre group Mixed Bag Theatre
These are just some of the areas Meg can share her skills in:
• Overcoming acute shyness and/or poor self-esteem
• Building genuine deep down confidence
• Teaching/improving breathing, alignment, projection, connection and vibrato
• Identifying, widening and rethinking your vocal range
• Experimenting with vocal styles to find what makes YOUR voice unique to YOU
• Enjoying harmonies
• Finding your inner song-writer
• Playing with performance techniques
What Meg doesn't offer:
• Formal & stuffy lessons with piano and endless scales
• 'Absolute' pitch
• Complex musical theory
• Grade exam tuition
Your first meet up with Meg is an initial assessment session...
That may sound formal and scary, but it's really not! Your hour will whizz by, as you spend 95% chatting about the music you both love, where you feel your strengths lie, and what areas you'd like to improve/explore.
Meg has a tried & tested method for breaking down various aspects of singing with you, so this conversation flows smoothly and with purpose, and you'll leave having an even greater understanding of what brought you there in the first place. Oh, and the 5% is comprised of a few singing type noises, with the 'proper stuff' starting the week after.
By the time you return for your follow up session, Meg will have typed up all your notes for your folder of potential, printed out any lyrics of your fave songs to try, built some games, sessions and constructed a major master plan! This is all included in the standard fee.
In turn, you will hopefully feel more than comfortable enough to get stuck into a whole bunch of fun and useful warm ups and game, before trying out some songs together.
Most students choose to meet weekly, at Meg's house in central Cambridge. But, for a few, twice-weekly or fortnightly works better. Again, most like the same time and day each week, but others work shift patterns and arrange our sessions a week or two in advance.
If this sounds in line with what you're looking for, get in touch and let’s arrange an initial session.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Meg (she/they)
