About Megan

Megan is an experienced teacher of flute, clarinet, saxophone, piano and music theory lessons. With 12 years of experience, Megan has worked with children and adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, in one-to-one and small group settings. Megan is experienced in teaching students from beginner right through to professional diploma standard, with extremely successful satisfaction and pass rates through formal qualifications.

What to expect from a lesson:

Megan teaches using a semi-structured approach. While her lessons are planned around the students making progress from the previous session, where circumstances allow, Megan allows students to express what they want to learn, and is adept at altering her teaching to suit the learning methods of the individual student.

Lessons with Megan can follow the graded exam system if the student wishes to do so, and Megan is flexible in offering a range of exam boards (ABRSM, Trinity College London, Trinity Rock and Pop, Rockschool) to suit the musical interests of her students. Students do not have to follow grades, however, and can simply learn for fun and to follow a developing passion. Megan's main aim with her teaching is to maintain the engagement of the student, and believes that the highest level of progress in playing an instrument comes from channeling individual interests and desires. Megan accompanies all of her own students, so for those that take music exams, Megan's lessons come with an in-built accompanist, and for those that wish to play for fun, lots of exciting duo playing can be incorporated into lessons.

Besides the conventional graded system, Megan has a wealth of experience in helping students with musical aptitude tests for secondary school applications, as well as with providing private GCSE and A-Level music tutoring.

What does the first lesson look like?
The first lesson that Megan provides will be spent getting to know the student in front of her. This will not be done through a bombardment of questions, but rather Megan will listen to the student play their instrument (if they have played before), or will teach a couple of basics to beginners, and will observe the aspects of playing that garner the most enthusiasm from the student.

We might have a chat about what music the student likes to listen to the most, or about both of our favourite songs. The main aim of the first lesson with Me...
