About Max

Max is a composer, sound artist improvisor, performer, technologist, educator, and poet. A passionate educator, he has taught in a number of different sectors and contexts. It is his belief that everyone can enjoy and participate in music beyond being a spectator.

He is currently Learning Trainee with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, where he is involved with the organisation and delivery of various outreach projects that explore making music.

He has taught piano, composition, music theory, and music history privately since 2011, and has had a number of students successfully achieve top marks in a variety of exam boards.

Since 2017, Max has been actively involved in teaching in Universities, teaching composition at the University of Birmingham, Experimental Music, and music theory, at Wesleyan University, and in his most recent job at the University of New Haven, where he was an Adjunct Instructor in Music.

He has led a number of Gamelan workshops through the Center for Arts at Wesleyan University, teaching Grade 4 students Javanese Gamelan, as well as helping teach Laurie Anderson!

Whether you want to spend time focusing on a certain kind of music, or whether you wish to focus on a particular technique, or whether you want to tackle that grade that you have been thinking about for a while, lessons with Max will help you achieve that goal!
