A Warm Welcome
Over the past thirty years, I have balanced my work as a composer and performer with an extensive teaching career in schools, colleges, and private settings. I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students—from special needs learners and adult beginners to music scholars—each with their own unique goals and backgrounds. Not coming from a musical family myself, I am especially passionate about nurturing confidence and musical skills in those who may feel they don’t fit the typical mould.
Lessons are relaxed and good-humoured, yet focused and tailored to each individual. I place a strong emphasis on detail and support, ensuring that students’ specific needs and ambitions are fully met. Whether you're preparing for exams (I am well-versed in a range of academic and music exam boards) or pursuing a personal project or goal, lessons are adapted accordingly.
My teaching is entirely inclusive and secular: there is no political or religious agenda in lessons. Quite simply, my aim is to teach pupils how to think, not what to think. The same philosophy applies to musical taste—if a piece is meaningful to you, I will help you learn how to play it with confidence and understanding.
