About Matthew L.
Matt is an ABRSM Grade 8 classically trained guitarist with over 10+ years' experience teaching students of all ages and abilities online, face to face and within various educational establishments. As well as the guitar, Matt teaches Banjo (Tenor and 5 String), Mandolin and Ukulele. Possessing a classical education, Matt has a deep understanding of Music Theory and uses this to teach song writing and composition.
With a deep love and understanding of almost all genres of music, Matt is able to teach you what you want to play! Is it Rock, Blues, Jazz, Metal, Classical or even Flamenco, just let him know what your preferred music genre is! Whatever your music choice Matt is keen to join and help you on your musical journey.
Matt welcomes all potential students!
Whether it’s your first time holding a guitar, or you’re looking to further your gradings or even if you’re a ten year veteran looking for something less formal Matt offers online or face to face lessons from his home based studio.
Matt offers both graded, (ABRSM, Rock School and Trinity) and non-graded lessons for the Classical, Acoustic or Electric guitar.
Whilst graded lessons follow an established curriculum, non-graded lessons will be of a similar nature, both are structured entirely to your needs and requirements.
UKULELE, BANJO AND MANDOLIN:
The ukulele’s popularity has grown enormously over the last few years as an easy to learn and play instrument.
Great for younger children before progressing to the guitar, however irrespective of your age they are just great fun to play!! (Matt can even teach you how to play classical music on your ukulele!!)
Banjo and Mandolin lessons are quite specialized due to the nature of the respective instruments. Send Matt a message for more information.
MUSIC THEORY / COMPOSITION AND SONG WRITING:
Already playing an instrument?
Perhaps you’ve always wanted to write a song or compose a piece of music for your instrument.
Perhaps you’re tired of reading TAB and want to know what you’re missing out on by learning the musical language.
Confused by the Circle of 5ths or even 4ths?
If you are a new to Music Theory then the focus will be on the language and how to read and use it effectively.
If you’re a guitarist Matt can help you move away from solely depending upon TAB.
For Composition and Song Writing lessons it is assumed you already read and understand the language.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST LESSON:
You’ll have a short “get to know you” chat with Matt covering your expectations and what you may already know about your instrument.
Your choice of music genre that you’d like to learn, (should you have one) will also be discussed along with gradings, should you wish to do them.
Don’t worry if you’re a complete beginner, by the end of your first lesson you will be on the road to playing.
If you’re an experienced musician Matt will explore what you’re able to do and plan forward from there.
If your first lesson is Theory/ Composition please make sure you have pen/ pencil and paper to hand as well as your instrument.
If it is an instrument lesson, please make sure you have the appropriate instrument and/ or *equipment. (*Amp and any pedals).
