About Matt A.

Saxophonist and award-winning composer Matt Anderson has over 10 years of teaching experience at all levels of ability and ages, from beginners to conservatoire students and adult learners. He has an encouraging and patient approach which is centred around the student and their needs and musical interests. Lessons are creative, fun and engaging, and students are encouraged to engage deeply with all aspects of music, including aural skills and rhythm.

Outside of private teaching, he teaches talented young musicians at the prestigious Junior Academy Jazz course at the Royal Academy of Music, London, is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire and also teaches jazz saxophone at the University of Leeds. He runs jazz workshops on a freelance basis for organisations like NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra), Jazz-at-HEART and Jambone (Sage Gateshead). In the jazz world, he has released two critically-acclaimed original albums (Wild Flower and Rambling) and performs internationally. He also won the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition in 2017.

Matt is one of the best teachers I have had the pleasure to work with. He is well-organised, extremely able as both player and teacher and has the best interests of his students at heart. I recommend him most warmly as a teacher for all ages and abilities.
