About Marina
Marina is an experienced violin teacher and professional violinist based in the Surbiton, Kingston and Teddington area, with over a decade of teaching and performing experience. Alongside her private teaching studio, she also works as a string coach with a youth orchestra, helping young musicians develop ensemble and orchestral skills.
Marina specialises in teaching children and teenagers, from complete beginners to more advanced students preparing for ABRSM examinations, performances, auditions, and youth orchestra participation. She also teaches a limited number of dedicated adult learners.
Lessons with Marina are structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. Her teaching combines strong technical foundations with the development of musicality, listening skills, rhythm, posture, confidence, and expressive playing. Marina incorporates elements of the Colourstrings approach, with a emphasis on aural development and music theory integrated naturally into lessons.
For young beginners, parental support and regular practice at home are considered an essential part of successful progress. Marina is currently particularly interested in working with young beginners aged 5–7 who are starting violin for the first time and building healthy technical and musical foundations in a positive and encouraging environment.
Trial lessons for very young beginners may include simple musical games, singing, rhythm, and listening activities to help assess readiness for starting violin lessons comfortably and confidently.
Students are encouraged to attend lessons regularly and maintain consistent practice throughout the week in order to make steady and enjoyable progress. Marina’s students regularly take part in informal studio concerts and performance opportunities held throughout the year, including seasonal concerts in winter and summer.
