About Marie Miller Mism Marie Henderson-Cleland

I have given singing lessons for over 20 years and am still performing. My aim is to enable my pupils to enjoy their lessons and to sing with consummate ease.

Marie Miller (lirico spinto soprano) studied with Valerie Baulard and the famous Welsh tenor, Edgar Evans, principal tenor at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for nearly 30 years.

She has performed central roles in over 40 operas including the title roles in Verdi's Aida, Puccini's Madama Butterfly and leading soprano roles in Gounod's Faust (Marguerite), Verdi's Il Trovatore (Leonora) and La Traviata (Violetta), both Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Queen of Night and First Lady in The Magic Flute (Mozart), Puccini's La Boheme (Musetta), Britten's Albert Herring (Lady Billows) and many others.

She is well-known, with past performances for various opera companies at the Lyric and Polish Theatres in Hammersmith, Wimbledon Theatre, Kenneth Moore Theatre, Kenwood, St Mary Abbott's Theatre and Open Air Theatres in London and the Minack Theatre, Cornwall - which have all been well-received.

Her appearances on the concert platform in and around London have been extensive. Since leaving London in Autumn 2002, Marie has participated with the Welsh National Opera in the fully staged production of Verdi's "Aida" performed in Italian with Dennis O'Neill and Svetlina Vassileva under the baton of Carlo Rizzi and directed by John Caird in Cardiff and Birmingham. Marie has a continuing association with the Welsh National Opera and has also performed with them in "The Mikado" in Cardiff. Marie has already given several recitals and concerts in Shrewsbury and Powys.

During 2013, concert appearances in Shrewsbury included performances at the Gateway in June and October. The October performance included Mozart's opera rara "The Impresario" which Marie produced and directed. Marie hosted a very successful concert on 28th November 2014 at the Shrewsbury Gateway.

Over the past several years, Marie has again become involved in the provision of coaching and vocal techniques for a number of students (both beginners and advanced). Some of the advanced students have participated in Shrewsbury Gateway concerts with Marie and others.

Marie teaches in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and in Shrewsbury.
