About Lucy Pickering
I’ve been teaching singing for over 20 years, from adult beginners to working theatre professionals. I cover pretty much all styles of singing, with an emphasis on healthy vocal technique. I also work professionally as a singer, so have a current working knowledge of the performing world too.
I’m an empathetic person, and am used to helping singers overcome nerves - either about an upcoming audition or just about the lesson itself. Singing is such an intrinsic part of who we all are, and I love helping students become the best vocal version of themselves.
LESSONS - lessons always start with some warm ups and vocal exercises to help you learn about what your voice can do, and to challenge and stretch your abilities, before we work on songs. Depending on students’ style/field/level this could be preparing a song required for a West End show audition, preparing for an Associated Board Singing exam, polishing a self written guitar ballad for an open mic night, or learning a classic jazz song just for fun.
ABOUT ME - I’ve been a professional singer for about 25 years, working mostly in jazz and pop. I’ve sung on cruiseships, in off-West End theatres, with celebrated jazz big bands, and with my own jazz quartet and my own Americana band. I trained in classical voice initially, and still enjoy teaching this style of singing too. I also run singing retreats with an emphasis on singing for fun - have a look at my website for more details, which is feelgoodsingingretreats.com.
LOCATION - my teaching space is in Hollingbury, which means FREE parking! It’s a well equipped bright and big teaching room with my lovely grand piano. There’s mics and amps here too, to work on mic technique, and guitars you can borrow if necessary.
I also teach flute to an intermediate level, having played since my childhood.
