About Lou
I am a 27 y/o with 4 years teaching experience, with a First Class Honors in Popular Music (2018) and a Distinction in MA Computational Arts (2021) both from Goldsmiths University of London. I have experience teaching a range of abilities from absolute beginner to grade 8, and also have experience teaching a range of ages (5 - 75) and styles (traditional folk finger-picking, classical, jazz, rock and alternative, pop, punk, as well as grades both in classical and rock, and songwriting). I am based in Brockley, South East London, but also offer online lessons.
Whether you're an absolute beginner that wants to take their first steps in learning guitar, or perhaps learn some songs to play among friends/family or at an open mic, or whether you want to take grades and learn music theory, or even write your own songs and play live, I can cater for that. I have taught both privately and for Eric Lindsey Music, Bruce Music and Fireworks Music School, and have taught both in person and online during lockdown.
I am also a working and signed (Warm Laundry Records / State 51) songwriter and recording and performing artist, who also does commissioned musical work. I believe this gives me an edge as a teacher, as I have an enthusiasm for music creation and performance, which I pass onto my students, encouraging them to find their own style and voice with the instrument. It means I can also help them with music composition, songwriting and improvisation should they want, and indeed many of my students have gone on to make music and/or perform themselves.
