About Lisa H

Lisa understands the varying aims of a singer seeking lessons. Some want all-round confidence to allow them to say yes to opportunities, rather than be hesitant. Some singers enjoy creating their own melodies or like to cover a well known song. How you deliver a well known song is unique and deserves your true expression and Lisa encourages that creativity and boldness. Other singers want guidance in preparing for their audition piece and some singers just want to return to singing again. Dependent on the students aim, the lessons will be tailored to suit. The main aim throughout is to build confidence and encourage freedom of expression.

Lessons
Lessons are taught online. Lisa wants to deliver a compact lesson, that covers warm ups and a run through of a song suitable for you. She'll run through the song, sometimes just to isolate vocal line that needs work, so you can tackle it confidently, drawing your breath from your diaphragm so you feel able to sustain long notes with breath to spare. There's so much the voice can do and this you will discover during the lessons. Repetition is the key, repeating the vocal warm ups/breaking exercises each week and alternating between a couple of songs really suitable for your range and that have just the right amount of challenge involved, and most of all, to really enjoy making the sounds and to look forward to the next lesson.

Background
She studied singing at the Canadian Academy of Vocal Music and was fortunate to have an artist development deal during that period, that meant she could write or co-write songs, work with producers and record in the studio as well as showcase material live at concerts in Toronto. Then back in the UK was a rollarcoaster of session singing in studios and live, followed by joining a band and there is nothing quite like the bond between a band all creating a sound together - the band wrote 2 albums and performed at Dublin Castle, Camden, Jazz Cafe and Brixton Academy each time they wanted to showcase their set.

More recently, Lisa lived life as an expat for 8 years, teaching singing to expat students from many cultural backgrounds while in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Dubai, also performing resident gigs at hotels and venues. For the last 3 years she’s been living in Pembury/Tunbridge Wells with her husband and son, teaching singing with a music academy and also privately, from her home.
