About Leona

Leona Gogolicynová was born in the Czech Republic and started to play violin at the age of 6.

She completed her DiS. degree (specialist diploma) at the Conservatoire of Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic in classical violin, and Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees at Guildhall School of Music & Drama (GSMD) in London, where she received a high distinction in her violin studies and was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma for exceptional performance in her final recital. After her graduation from GSMD, Leona was invited to stay on as a Fellow in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Leona has performed as a soloist with the South Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Finchley Symphony Orchestra, the St Clements Players and City of London Soloists. She has participated in masterclasses with David Dolan, Miriam Kramer, Andrew Watkinson, David Waterman, Tomotada Soh, Martin Chalifour (LA Phil), Ivan Straus, Jan Talich, and others. The venues Leona has performed in include Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall, LSO St Luke’s, Koncertní síň O. Jeremiáše, and Chinese National Orchestra Concert Hall. She has given concerts in the UK, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, France, Italy, and China.

Leona runs her own Slavic Soirees concert series in South West London, which promotes Slavic musicians and composers. She is a permanent member of the Walshaw Trio (flute, violin and piano).

Leona is a dedicated violin teacher with considerable experience in teaching different ages and skill levels from beginners to advanced. Leona is able to teach a variety of musical styles, including classical, popular, world music genres and improvisation, whilst coaching students towards taking examinations and performing live on stage.

Leona uses an effective variety of specialist teaching techniques to make lessons fun and enjoyable. She also helps students to understand music theory and aural skills as a basis to their learning. As she has a real passion for promoting the violin, her goal is to instil a sense of music appreciation, while at the same time teaching students about the technical and theoretical aspects of music. Furthermore, Leona strives to expand children’s interests in music by organising live performances and inviting them to attend her own concerts.
