About Lauren
About Lauren:
Based in North London, Lauren is a versatile cello teacher who can focus on anything a pupil could want – including new repertoire, working towards ABRSM grade exams, competitions, medal awards, playing pieces for friends and family, public concerts, weddings, parties and just for fun! She specialises in a variety of genres – from serious classical styles like Bach, Beethoven and Dvorak to more lighted contemporary styles like film music pieces and pop music arranged for cello. Her technical specialisations vary from scales and arpeggios, sight reading, aural tests, to improvisations and fun call and response games.
About the lessons:
To get the most out of Lauren’s teaching, it is recommended that students take lessons with her once or twice a week, for a total of 1-2 hours weekly. For instance, the lessons can take place in 1 hour on the same day or can be split into two slots on different days.
Lauren’s daily practice suggestions are: 0.5-1 hours for beginners or early learners (initial to grade 3), 1-1.5 hours for intermediate (grade 4-5), 2-3 hours for advanced (grade 6-8) and 3-4 hours for experts, professionals, conservatoire/university students.”
One cello with bow can be provided for a student in their first lesson. However, the student is advised to buy their own instrument for future lessons. Before purchasing, Lauren can discuss what size and make of instrument the student should get and where they can buy it. Once they have bought their own instrument and/or bow, such things will no longer be provided unless for emergency reasons.
What does the first lesson with a new student look like?
In the first lesson, Lauren will:
• Ask about the student’s cello playing experience and knowledge, as well as anything they know about music and music theory
• Ask if they have heard of, seen or listened to the cello, and demonstrate what it sounds like upon request
• Discuss students’ musical interests and aspirations
• Talk about how she plans her lessons with students
• Acknowledge her offers for individual and group lessons.
Extra Notes About Lessons:
*1-1 lessons can take place at Lauren’s home just off Barnet High Street or at the student’s home if in Northern London. Group lessons are offered at Lauren’s place only.
*Students do not need to bring anything with them to their first l...
