About Kavhan K. P.

About Kavhan:
Kavhan has spent the last 10 years of his music career touring all over the world, from America to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, playing gigs to packed out crowds with his band Flamingods, as well as with a number of other artists. He's played main stages at some of the worlds biggest festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, End of the Road and more. He has also spent years honing his skills in the studio playing drums and percussion for a number of artists as well as his own projects.

He has been playing drums for around 20 years, as well as percussion including Bongos, Conga, South Indian Mridangam, Latin Drum Kit, West African Rhythms and Indian Rhythms. He spent his childhood growing up in many different countries creating a rich musical tapestry for him to draw inspiration from.

It is this experience that makes Kavhan's approach to teaching so unique.

Learning with Kavhan:
Kavhan loves the challenge of teaching absolute beginners and getting them feeling confident and excited to be behind the kit.

As well as this, he enjoys teaching those more advanced drummers looking to get down to the nitty gritty of refining technique. Or young/old drummers looking to build their confidence in playing on stage and unpacking and looking at what might be holding back their playing or confidence in certain areas of performance.

Having grown up surrounded by a plethora of different music, he is equipped to teach Rock, Metal, Jazz, Pop, Funk, Disco, Latin Percussion, West African Rhythms, and Fusion.

Students:
Lessons are tailored to a students needs, interests, and their attitudes and approach to learning. They will always get a strong understanding of the rudimentary elements of drumming and equip themselves with the skills to play independently, this may be done through learning simple popular songs, or rhythms that Kavhan feels will challenge and excite them.
Depending on a students level of ambition to pursue the instrument, they can also be taught sight reading. Kavhan encourages this as it provides further independence behind the kit, though it is not essential.

A student would be expected to own a pair of sticks, and a practice pad. A drum kit is a bonus.

Karthik tuned in to my drumming interests quickly and paved the way for me to get to where I wanted to go by planning out key exercises, while also spending time getting aspects such as posture and stick holding right really early on which made an immediate difference to my playing. In short, he’ll make the lessons fun and insightful and you’ll see definitive progress as the sessions go on.
