About Katherine
Katherine is a highly experienced teacher of the violin and viola based in North London who loves sharing her passion for music. Students can expect a fun but structured approach that is centred around them whilst building their musical confidence. Katherine uses different genres of music to teach essential techniques.
Katherine has held the position of Head of Strings at the Aldgate School for more than a decade and she is experienced in the Paul Rolland string and Sheila Nelson teaching methods. Katherine also uses tonic sol fa and improvisation in her teaching.
It is recommended that students have an individual lesson on a weekly basis and ideally an additional group lesson too. The length of lessons will depend on the student's stage of learning. Katherine can advise about the hire of instruments, which is recommended whilst students are still growing.
In the first lesson Katherine will find out about the student's musical interests and aspirations and their level of musical experience. All teaching takes place in person in Katherine's music studio in her home in Enfield, North London.
Katherine is highly experienced in teaching all age groups from year 3 to adults, and from beginner level to Grade 8. As well as being Head of Strings at the Aldgate School, Katherine has previously taught at the Centre for Young Musicians and for Haringey Music Service.
As a professional musician Katherine has performed with the BBC Ulster Orchestra, the RTE Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Katherine has also performed with many pop stars including Robbie Williams and provided live music for several productions at the National Theatre. Katherine studied at Cambridge University before undertaking postgraduate performance studies at the Royal Northern College of Music.
