About Kate A.
Kate is a professional recorder player and Masters graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
She offers lessons to pupils of any age – Recorder from beginner to Grade 8+, and Violin from beginner to Grade 5.
Kate aims to introduce students to a wide range of musical styles, but will always tailor lessons to suit their personal musical interests. Some pupils may wish to use exams as a goal but equally may have other reasons for learning - playing simply for fun, to work on favourite pieces, or to develop the skills to be able to play with others. If pupils do wish to take exams, Kate has experience of the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exam procedures. Above all she tries to make lessons as enjoyable and inspiring as possible, while still building a solid foundation for technique - this includes having a good posture, working on quality of sound and developing finger coordination. Kate also works on incorporating all areas of musicianship - rhythmic skills, aural skills and and understanding of music theory - into each lesson, so that pupils can become well-rounded musicians.
In a first lesson Kate will chat about your interests and goals, and introduce you to some technique/repertoire to start off with and get an idea of the way in which you learn!
