About Karla

Karla is a professional opera singer and qualified singing teacher passionate about helping students of all ages and levels discover their unique voice. With a successful career as a freelance Opera singer, and years of stage and teaching experience, she holds a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland alongside a Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Vocal Teaching.

TEACHING APPROACH

I specialise in helping my students develop a healthy vocal technique, musicality, and confidence in their performances. I create fun, dynamic vocal exercises for my students that also work to strengthen their voices. Whether you’re a beginner looking to strengthen your voice or an advanced singer aiming to refine your singing technique and performance skills, I tailor each lesson to meet your unique needs and goals. My job as a singing teacher is to create a supportive and inspiring environment where my students can grow at their own pace and produce their best and healthiest sound with confidence.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO LEARN?

- An understanding of healthy vocal technique, regardless of style
- How to support the voice
- Breath control
- How you can grow your vocal range
- How to develop your musical expression
- Performance skills & techniques

LESSON STRUCTURE

Each of my lessons starts with setting intentions with my students on what they’d like to focus on and achieve from the lesson. I take my students through some warm-ups and breathing exercises to activate the voice while also focussing on some vocal technique, adjusting depending on the level they’re at. I work with my students to apply technique to their chosen songs, offering feedback to improve both vocal skills and artistic expression. I also like to help my students connect emotionally with the music and their character, improving phrasing, dynamics, and stage presence. I end my lessons checking with my students progress while also offering guidance on how they can continue that work through their individual practice.

I have 5 years of private teaching experience, and have also led small group workshops after completing musicianship training in Kodaly as part of NYCoS and at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

I teach privately from my home, online or I can travel to the student in some cases.
