About Me
I’m a graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in piano performance. I’ve been teaching piano and music theory to learners of all ages for over 30 years and also work professionally as a pianist and composer. My lessons are supportive, encouraging and tailored to each student’s interests and goals, whether they are starting from scratch, returning after a break or preparing for ABRSM exams. The focus is always on building confidence, musicality and enjoyment.
Lessons
Lessons are tailored to each student’s preferred style, whether classical, pop or exam preparation using the ABRSM syllabus. Traditional lessons cover technique, sight-reading, chords and theory, all delivered at a pace that suits the individual’s learning style. Some students may also enjoy exploring creativity through improvisation and composition.
Who I Teach
I teach children from around age 8 and adults of any age, from complete beginners to more advanced learners. I’m experienced in helping nervous beginners feel comfortable and enthusiastic, as well as guiding exam students towards success.
Trial Lesson
A 45-minute introductory lesson is available for new students. We’ll discuss your musical interests, experience and goals, assess your current level and try some practical activities. I’ll then suggest a suitable path forward, whether you’d like to prepare for exams, learn pieces you enjoy or explore composition and improvisation. We can also decide whether 45-minute or one-hour ongoing lessons would suit you best.
Locations and Logistics
Lessons are held in Greylees and the surrounding NG34 area. I travel to teach students in their own homes, allowing them to learn in familiar surroundings on their own instrument. Weekday and evening bookings are available, subject to availability. Music theory and music composition or production lessons are also available.
