About Judy P

Judy, a graduate of Royal Academy of Music London, is an experienced international professional orchestral and chamber musician who is also a passionate teacher. She has taught at Winchester College, Benenden School for Girls, London College of Music Junior Department, Blüthners Piano School, Tchaikovsky London Piano School and in Oman for the Royal Oman Symphony and Muscat Royal Philharmonic Orchestras/Schools.

Currently she teaches privately in and around Central and West London. At present she only has time in her diary to take on new pupils who can travel to have their lessons at her studio in Marble Arch.

Though a genuine enthusiasm to explore the world of classical music is a good prerequisite, Judy is best suited to teaching children who are very serious about progressing well and can help children prepare for successful auditions for the four UK specialist music schools - Purcell School, St Mary's, Wells Cathedral and Chethams.

Teaching Style + Approach for Piano + Oboe
I take a classic approach in the music lessons, which will include, scales, arpeggios, studies, sight-reading, improvisation whilst also working through a variety of pieces. I ensure that correct technique is taught to ensure that my pupils gain strength and an easy ability so that their playing is more effortless. I am experienced at preparing pupils for ABRSM Practical exams from Grade 1-Diploma that include scales, sight-reading and aural tests.

Teaching Oboe
I can adjust reeds and help students learn how to do this.

Teaching Theory + Aural
All students are taught theory and aural at the level suitable to support their understanding of performance. Judy teaches 'sol-fah', so that students can sight-sing more easily.

Genre
I teach note-based classical music. And have experience teaching the following genres: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern Avant-Garde. I am sorry but I do not teach pop music.

First Lesson
Judy uses the first lesson to understand what the student is hoping to achieve and to then explain how she would go about teaching the pupil to gain this goal. Judy is extremely musical and so can inspire her pupils to create levels of music they may not have been aware of. Coupled with her thorough approach to practically dealing with technical problems and her genuine enthusiasm,...
