About Josh Mountford
Josh is an experienced and versatile cello teacher offering engaging, personalised lessons for students of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. Based in East London, he teaches both in person and online, helping each student find confidence, enjoyment and strong technical foundations through a relaxed but structured approach. He holds a Master’s degree with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with Professor Jo Cole, and a First Class Honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music under Professor Hannah Roberts, following earlier studies at Chetham’s School of Music.
Alongside teaching, Josh is Principal Cellist of Paraorchestra and has regularly performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra as part of their 2024/25 Career Accelerator Scheme as well as the Orpheus Sinfonia and other orchestras across London and the UK.
As a chamber musician, he is the founder of Petford Ensemble, performing across the UK and Europe for concerts, weddings and corporate events. He has also returned to Chetham’s to coach young musicians in ensemble and sectional sessions.
