Learning music can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences, setting us up for a lifetime of self discovery. Joseph has over 20 years playing and 5 years teaching experience. He has had students of all ability levels, ages and backgrounds including children with autism, ADHD and learning difficulties. He has taught privately and in both primary and secondary schools.

His lessons are focused around the needs and goals of each student and he aims to bring fun, joy and a breadth of knowledge to each class. His principle instrument is the guitar but lessons can include guitar, music theory, songwriting and basic music production using the program Logic Pro X or Garageband.


First lesson

Joseph wants each student to feel they are working on exactly what they want to while learning with him. The first class will be a conversation aiming to understand what your goals are, as well as looking at where you are at in your musical journey and how to get you to the next step.


Guitar:

Joseph can teach guitar in most contemporary styles and genres including: Folk, singer-songwriter, pop, blues, rock, metal and more. Whether you're just starting out or looking to move out from the playing rut that you've been in, he can help you develop your playing through friendly and encouraging guidance.

Guitar classes can include:

- Reading guitar tablature.

- Music theory.

- Basic to advanced chord theory.

- Solo/Lead playing and improvisation.

- Establishing a strong practice and exercise routine.

- Finding your own style and voice on the guitar.


Songwriting:

Songwriting classes take the form of both traditional classes to learn the theory and practice of songwriting and a more open mentorship approach, which includes regular feedback sessions and classes focused on the editing and development of your material. This can be considered closer to the process of A&R (Artist and repertoire) that one would find in a record label or music publishers.

Songwriting classes can include:

- Music theory.

- Writing harmony (Chords or the musical/ instrumental element of a song).
