About Josef
Josef is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, where he achieved diplomas in both teaching and performance. In addition to his teaching, he is an experienced ballet pianist - he has worked as a company pianist for Birmingham Royal Ballet, a freelance accompanist for other major ballet companies and schools and at the Royal Opera House, London.
Josef welcomes piano students of all ages (5 yrs +) and abilities, from the total beginner upwards - including those with no previous experience who are curious to try out lessons, students who want or need to change teacher, the self-taught now looking for a teacher, and adults wishing to return to lessons.
Teaching Piano
Lessons take place online and are adapted to your current ability, goals and learning style. Each student responds differently, and it’s my goal to find an approach that helps you get the most out of the lesson and gets you to where you want to be with your playing. During the lesson we’ll go through your piano pieces, working on developing a good technique, musicianship, musical expression and an authentic interpretation. Guidance will also be given on how best to practice and how to overcome technical difficulties.
ABRSM exams are offered in piano grades 1 to 8, and for exam students appropriate scales, arpeggios, aural exercises and sight-reading will be gradually introduced into the lessons.
Teaching Music Theory
Music theory is taught at a level appropriate to your current playing standard, from the very basics of reading music up to Grade 5 ABRSM - a pass of which is a requirement for piano grades 6 and above.
Genre
Josef specialises in teaching classical piano.
