About Joonas Pekonen

I tailor my lessons according to each student's individual needs. This means I adjust my teaching to match the goals and abilities of the student, which in turn makes sure that every student is able to fulfil their potential and enjoy the lessons. I am also able to help with orchestral audition preparation, as I have had successful auditions to LSO, RSNO and Philharmonia. I'm experienced in teaching beginners, as well as advanced students and adult learners.

I studied pedagogy for two years in the Sibelius Academy as part of his bachelor's studies. This included teaching very young beginners, as well as adult students with prior experience. I have taught both privately and at the World Heart Beat Academy in London.

Joonas Pekonen is a young, versatile violinist from Finland, currently residing in London. He attended the Sibelius Academy Junior Department and continued his degree studies with Merit Palas and Tero Latvala. After completing his Bachelor's degree he received scholarships to further his studies with Krysia Osostowicz at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He participated in the LSO String Experience Scheme of 2022.

As a chamber musician Joonas has appeared on numerous festivals both in Finland and abroad. These include IMS Prussia Cove 'Open Chamber' in the UK, Aurora Festival in Sweden and Sounds of Luosto Festival, Flow Festival and Fiskars Summer Music In Finland. He has had the privilege of collaborating with musicians such as Louise Hopkins, Marko Ylönen, Caroline Palmer and Thomas Riebl to name a few. Joonas is the first violinist of the Picea Quartet, with whom he won the St James' Chamber Prize of 2021.

Joonas took part in the Finnish National Opera and Ballet apprenticeship programme in 2020, and has worked regularly in several orchestras in both Finland and the UK. These include the LSO, the RSNO, and Lahti Symphony Orchestra among others. Joonas has appeared as a soloist with the Tallis Chamber Orchestra, Joensuu City Orchestra and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. He plays on an Anonymous "Antonio Stradivari 1699" violin, generously loaned to him by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
