About Jonny Karl
Hello, I’m Jonny—a classically trained pianist with over 20 years of experience. I currently teach students aged 7 to 45 and I am preparing for my Grade 8 piano practical exam. My teaching journey began with family and friends’ recommendations and now includes over 10 regular learners, both beginners and advanced.
ABRSM grade 5 theory - Merit
Teaching Experience and Style
I have two years of formal and informal tutoring experience, supporting students through ABRSM and Trinity syllabuses. My lessons are shaped by a blend of hands-on activities, aural and visual aids, and interactive games, making learning engaging and effective for all ages and backgrounds. I have experience working with neurodivergent students and am committed to a patient, person-centred approach.
What to Expect from Lessons
My teaching style is adaptable and student-centred. I focus on building strong relationships and tailoring each lesson to your unique learning style. Expect a mix of technical foundations—like sight reading, finger dexterity, and chord structures—with creative exploration, such as composition and improvisation. I draw on methods including Suzuki, Kodály, Orff, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and Montessori, always personalising my approach to your needs.
Individual Growth and Techniques
I advocate for individual growth by helping you discover your musical intuition and creativity. This means using memory games, visual aids, and real-world musical challenges to build confidence and skill. Whether you’re preparing for exams or playing for enjoyment, I’ll help you set and achieve meaningful goals, supporting you every step of the way.
Success Story
One of my university-level students, after not passing her performance exam, worked with me to rebuild her confidence and skills. Through focused, supportive lessons, she achieved a distinction on her re-sit—proof that resilience and tailored guidance lead to real progress.
Beyond the Piano
Inspired by Chopin, philosophy, and astronomy, I aim to help students connect with music as both an art form and a journey of self-discovery.
If you’re looking for a tutor who values creativity, connection, and your personal growth—and who is familiar with both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards—I’d love to help you reach your musical goals!
