About Jonny:
Jonny is a professional singer based in West Yorkshire, he has a Masters Degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in Singing and Vocal teaching. He is a Bass Lay Clerk at York Minster and a freelance opera singer. He has worked with Opera North, Bergen National Opera and Cumbria Opera. He is also a freelance solo singer around the north of England and has recently worked as a soloist for Leeds Philharmonic choir, Manchester Bach choir and the Tatton singers.
Singing Lessons:
He specialises in teaching both Classical and Popular styles of vocal teaching having studied both at Music College. He specialises in vocal technique and teaching students how to produce a healthy and vibrant sound. He also specialises in teaching sight reading and how to learn and read sheet music at a fast pace. He is an accomplished sight reader and has to learn new music every day for his job at York Minster and can bring this experience to lessons. Jonny will also be able to prepare you for taking exams via ABRSM or Trinity.
In his lessons he will spend the first half of the lesson looking at vocal technique using vocal exercises , then in the second half he will apply this technique to teaching pieces to students.
In a first lesson he will ascertain what the student wants from the lessons and discuss the various techniques that they will look at through the course of lessons. He will then plan future lessons based on the areas of technique that will be most beneficial to the student. Jonny is very happy to teach online or in person. For lessons, students just need to bring an idea of pieces they would like to learn and if they have it, any music they want to look at.
Teaching Experience:
Jonny has experience in teaching pupils from early teens to adults and is comfortable teaching students from beginners to experienced singers. He has had experience in teaching pupils at the RNCM who studied different instruments but wanted lessons in singing, he also taught on the young voices scheme at RNCM which offers singing lessons to teenagers at the college. He also has experience in teaching singing privately to pupils Classical and Popular styles of technique and preparing students for exams.
