About Jonathan Kitching (BA Hons/PGCE)
Jonathan is a qualified music teacher delivering fun, engaging and memorable lessons that are bespoke to each student. Jonathan graduated from Universtiy of Salford and has since worked as a professional musician for over 20 years and teaches students of all ages and abilities from absolute beginners to diploma level.
“My principle aim is to inspire and encourage every student as they develop and give them the confidence and enthusism to perform the music they love.”
Jonathan is proficient with grades I-VIII ABRSM and Trinity Rock & Pop and prepares students for licentiate examination LRSM, LRAM, LLCM. Jonathan iis proficient in Logic Pro X/GarageBand, Sibelius and a variety of other music software/apps and has a wealth of experience of writing and producing recorded music.
Jonathan is an expert in commuting through virtual musical learning whether via Google Classroom, Zoom and/or Skype, possesses CPD in internet safety at his most recent employment positions and continues to be GDPR compliant.
Drum kit and Percussion Preparation for Instrument Examinations:
(including Trinity/Guildhall, Rock School, Trinity Rock and Pop)
Areas covered with beginner/intermediate individuals:
- The understanding of Pulse and Meter/Tempo
- An understanding of Dynamics (Loud/Soft)
- The understanding of Coordination between all limbs and voice (Basic Grooves/Beats, Sticking Exercises and Counting)
- The understanding of basic Rhythmic Notation such as short rhythmic phrases including time signatures, bars etc. Sticking exercises, beats/grooves
- Stick Control developed using the basic rudiments (Single/Double/Paradiddle etc.)
Areas covered with intermediate individuals are:
- Musical Style and Genre
- Further challenging aspects of coordination and limb independence/interdeendence through Jazz Drum Set and/or Latin Percussion Method
- Further Stick Control explored through the use of snare drum pieces and/or more advanced rudiments (Including: Accents/Flams/Triplets/Rolls/Drags/Ruffs)

- In-depth study into Musical Style and Genre (Pop, Rock, Funk, Jazz and World Music)
