About Jonathan O.
Hi!!! My name is Jonny Owens, I am a professional Guitar & Bass player and music teacher from London, I am currently offering courses in Electric & Acoustic Guitar and Bass (Pop/Rock & Jazz), Classical Guitar & Flamenco for pupils seeking one-to-one lessons.
I have 23 years playing experience, 18 years teaching experience and 21 years experience performing in a plethora of Rock, Pop & Metal groups in the UK and Spain.
As I believe repertoire is the most important aspect of a musicians arsenal I am open to teaching beginners guitar and music theory catering to the music tastes of the pupil, be it Rock, Reggae, Jazz or Latin styles.
I also offer advance courses in Technical Rock & Metal, Jazz, Classical Guitar and Flamenco, these involve a more concise look at:
• Improvisation & Understanding of Musical Conversation
• Ear Training to help you Learn to intuitively play what's in your head
• Harmony & Theory (Understanding music as a language)
• The Technique & Dexterity (providing the skills to perform advance styles)
Lessons are conducted at my home studio in Plaistow with space for parents to sit and relax whilst I conduct the class. All students will have the option to play a vast array of Guitars in the studio to get a feel for the right instrument to suit their playing.
My Music History
I was brought up in a very musical family constantly listening to Classical, Jazz and 70's rock from a young age. At 12 years old I took up drum lessons to pick up a hands-on understanding of
isolated rhythm but by 14 moved to guitar, picking up rock styles and playing with drummers and other musicians to learn the art of making musical conversation.
After 2 years at TVU, completing a National Diploma in Music performance, I co-created and performed in the Funk 7-piece 'Junkyard Scientists', playing gigs at venues and festivals in the south
of the UK, picking up stage experience and understanding music performance in larger ensembles.
In 2012 I Graduated from LCCM (London Centre of Contemporary Music) where I focused my studies on Jazz, Advanced Music Theory and Arranging for large ensembles before moving to
Barcelona to learn Classical Spanish Guitar, Flamenco & Latin Music. I performed with Majorcian artist Steven Munar and as a solo guitarist all over the north-east of Spain before returning to
London in September 2014.
I am currently residing in East London working in the local primary and secondary schools through Newham Music but still perform around the UK and regularly travel to Spain to seek out local teachers myself to advance my studies in the Spanish Guitar.
