About Joel H. MMus, BA (hons)

Joel is a highly experienced, friendly and award-winning music teacher and composer based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He undertook graded examinations with the London College of Music and ABRSM, achieving grade 8 (with distinction) in multiple instruments and went on to train in music at the University of Nottingham and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he achieved a BA (hons) degree and Masters in Music with distinction.

Joel currently teaches in schools for the Shropshire Music Service and has previously taught a range of instruments and genres in schools, music services, universities and privately to a wide range of pupils of all ages and abilities for over a decade. Joel takes a person-centred approach to support his pupils in achieving their own goals – be that learning for enjoyment and wellbeing, examinations and technique or creativity and imagination.

Joel teaches piano, keyboard, flute, guitar, bass guitar, drums, ukuele, composition, songwriting, music curriculum, music technology and music theory from his home studio, pupils’ homes and online. Joel also works as a professional composer of music, pianist, musical director and producer for theatres across the UK including Watford Palace Theatre, Lichfield Garrick Theatre, British Youth Music Theatre, Nottingham Playhouse, Coventry Belgrade, Paramount Theatre, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Joel is currently the Vice-Chair of Pentabus Theatre Company, the nation's rural touring theatre company based in Ludlow, and an Associate Artist at the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham.
