I always try to tailor my lessons around the students, both their personality and musical taste, and I think that's very important factor whether I'm teaching young children, teenagers, or adults. Besides the standard music practice that goes on in a class, I often listen to music with my students, improvise and talk about the mechanics and theory the music language.
My academic qualifications (BA in Music Education/M.Ed in Music Teaching) gave me a deeper insight and knowledge about pedagogy and teaching strategies. My opinion is that you can't force someone to like playing music, they have to discover it themselves and my role is to provide a context and environment to make that possible.
