About Janice
Janice is a young professional who completed an Advanced Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music and a Master of Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She is an experienced international musician and a passionate teacher. With over 20 years of piano and oboe playing experience, and more than 10 years of teaching across Asia and the UK, Janice has worked with students of all ages and levels. She has performed with professional orchestras and at renowned venues across Asia and Europe. Currently, she teaches privately in Central, West, and East London. Janice has extensive experience in guiding complete beginners as they pick up an instrument for the first time, as well as helping advanced students successfully gain admission to leading universities.
Teaching in Oboe and Piano
Jace applies a classic approach to the music lessons, which includes: scales, studies, sight-reading and working through different periods of music. She believes that enhanced technique is essential to support her students' performing ability. She has experiences at teaching ABRSM exams from Grade 1-8 as well as professional levels.
For teaching oboe, Janice also provides reed making lessons and will offer to make reeds for students.
Genre
Janice teaches all genres from Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern and Jazz to pop music, but she specialises in classical music.
First lesson
Janice will use the first lesson to get to know the student’s personality and their intention behind learning music. What are their plans? What do they want to achieve? Janice will adapt her teaching method for the student and their goal, as she understands that everyone has different personalities and different ways of learning music. Janice will tailor a teaching method for each student and she will discuss this with them during their first lesson.
Beginners
Janice would expect all the beginners to have an instrument they can practise on. She is happy to help advise you when buying an instrument or provide information on rental or second-hand equipment.
