About Jamie Brown Music Tuition

Jamie started his musical training at the age of 7, where at junior school he was encouraged to start classical guitar lessons which quickly progressed to playing bass guitar with the school orchestra and Doncaster Music Services’ bands and concert bands. He then started to want to learn to play keyboard and took some lessons. From this the natural progression to piano ensued.

At secondary school he continued bass guitar playing with the stage band and started playing with the Doncaster Youth Jazz Association under the direction of John Ellis MBE. He continued playing piano and classical guitar but also progressed to playing electric guitar and theatre organ. His basic training for Piano came from Donald Tune a piano virtuoso in Doncaster. He became the Musical Director for local Pantomime performances until moving on to further education.

He went on to join Doncaster Colleges’ Music section to study Music full time. He took direction from Dave Lane who furthered his passion for an eclectic mix of music but particularly in Jazz and the contemporaries. Whilst at the college he also took tuition from Jonathan Gooing on piano. He started to also develop an interest in Music Studio Technology and Theatre Technology. Bass guitar became a prominent skill and enabled him to work with lecturers and musicians such as Errol Rollings outside of college for masonic dinner dances and many other events throughout the year. Roles such as Musical Director for performances and theatre work were common, he also was the Musical Director for C.A.T.S (Carr-nival Accademy of Theatre Skills) and guest spots as a bassist for Stage Coach Theatre Arts.

At the end of his college years he decided to take the next step by joining Leeds College of Music studying for a Jazz and Contemporary Music Honours Degree. His time there enabled tuition from Richard Hammond (Bass player for Jane McDonald among others). Zoltan Dekany (BA M.Mus) on bass who was himself taught by Charlie Haden the infamous jazz bassist. Dr Mark Donlon for Ensemble studies, Dr Graham Hearn for Composition, John Anderson for Performance, Charlotte Orba for Composition and Critical Studies, Jamie Taylor for Historical Critical Analytical Studies and Trevor Vincent for Musical Theory. This took all the basic practical musical examinations taken throughout all his previous years to another level. He majored...
