About Jamie
Jamie is a highly experienced and versatile piano teacher . He has an adaptable teaching style and works individually with each pupil to find out what they enjoy and want to develop to get the most out of their learning experience.
He is able to offer jazz, blues, pop as well as classical and film music. He can also offer lessons in harmony, chord voicing and composition if it is an area the pupil wishes to learn. He has taken many pupils through music exams(classical and jazz) but his main focus is the enjoyment of learning and playing music.
To get the most out of Jamie it is recommended that you have a 30 minute lesson each week and practice regularly between lessons. The first lesson will find out the pupil's musical interests, experience and goals and begin to find a suitable pathway to get this going. He uses music tutor books as well as online resources depending on what is being worked on. As well as learning to read musical notation there is a focus on developing the musical ear throughout with the aim to create a rounded and versatile musician.
He has a BA Hons in music from York University and a Post graduate Diploma in jazz and popular music from Leeds Conservatoire . He composes music for TV, adverts and other media and has played many gigs and concerts . He has over twenty years of piano teaching experience from beginner to advanced.
