About Jakob D. M. W.
From a young age when I started learning the violin, I have been immersed in the world of music, and my passion to perform, create and share a love of music has only increased over time. During lessons I will assist a development of instrumental skill but also a thorough enjoyment and understanding of the instrument that comes with a love of music. Having actively pursued learning music all my life, in an orchestral, choral and academic setting, I also feel I can bring a wider context to music lessons that I teach.
I have had thorough orchestral and solo experience as a violinist. In secondary school I began by playing in the School Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, eventually moving to first desk helping to lead the orchestra. I also played in the Thames Youth Orchestra, which involved touring Madrid and Barcelona. I also rose to first desk with this orchestra. I was able to take these experiences to university in York where I studied music, and helped lead the first year orchestra on first desk in the undergraduate first project.
During university I was also involved in several extra-curricular projects such as the opera The Rape of Lucretia, and the chamber orchestra accompaniment for the inauguration of the new Vice-Chancellor of the University. Throughout university I played with the Chamber Orchestra, the Sinfonietta Orchestra and University Symphony Orchestra, which required yearly solo auditions for entry, and helped develop my technique and practice.
