About Jacob
Achieve your goals by working with an Award-Winning British singer, pianist, songwriter and producer! Jacob is now available for teaching online.
At the start of your time together, Jacob will tailor a specific step-by-step plan according to your specific needs and goals.
Vocals:
Jacob's approach is drawn from the Estill method of singing - which is heavily grounded in scientific research. Focussing on breath support, tension release and postural factors, Jacob also incorporates performance techniques into his training. As a performer himself, he knows that technique is only half the story. Emotional connection and delivery are essential. Therefore engaging one's whole body into singing will allow you to finally be able to get the most out of your unique instrument.
Piano:
Jacob has a background in Jazz and Classical piano, with a recent focus on pop styles and improvisation. Jacob approaches piano training with two main components: 1. technique (various scales/agility enhancing exercises to strengthen), and 2. passion/enjoyment - ie repertoire that is primarily student led. We will only study music that moves and excites you! Technical components will ensure progress is achieved, and Jacob can guide repertoire choices to accommodate this, but it is essential that a student is excited about practicing in between lessons, therefore the repertoire choices need to be agreed on both sides.
Songwriting and Production:
As a working producer and songwriter, Jacob has completed many recordings in his own studio, which have been featured in Film and TV. Jacob has also worked as a composer for film in Vancouver. Jacob approaches songwriting and production training by assessing each student on two factors: 1. factual feedback and 2. Preference/Opinion Feedback. Each week a student will submit a new piece of music to Jacob for feedback on these two criteria. He will then give advice on how things could be developed. For example in Songwriting - 'Factual feedback' would be to do with Structure and Form, whereas 'Preference/Opinion feedback' would be on Emotional Clarity and Tone. Jacob is fluent in Logic Pro and Pro Tools, and can give advanced Digital Production feedback on your recordings.
