About Jacob
Whether you are a beginner and excited to start learning the guitar, have been playing for a while and want to expand your guitar knowledge, or are an intermediate/advanced player looking to take your musicianship to the next level - Jacob will be able to help you reach your goals! The whole point of learning the guitar is because it's fun, and so Jacob's lessons will be based on what gets you excited about the instrument to nurture your curiosity and to help you get the most enjoyment out of music.
About Jacob:
Jacob is an accomplished and versatile guitarist, teacher and composer. He performs as a sideman across a range of genres, leads a jazz fusion trio, and pursues a wide variety of freelance work including session recording, solo performance, musical theatre productions, transcription work, functions and writing for production music libraries. He graduated with a first class BA(Hons) degree in Professional Musicianship from the British Institute of Modern Music, and has taught students of all ages on a private one-to-one basis.
Guitar Lessons:
- Any level of experience is welcome, from beginner to advanced.
- Lessons are led by the student - what do you want to learn?
- Learn how to improvise and find your voice on the instrument.
- Improve fretboard knowledge to feel more freedom.
- Systematic and applied development of scales, arpeggios, chords, time feel, groove and harmonic concepts.
- Learning and analysing any song of your choosing to see what makes it great, and find out what you can learn from it.
- Tone and the importance of phrasing, articulation, feel and touch.
- Fluency in a wide range of genres including but not limited to jazz, funk, soul, pop, rock, folk and R&B.
- Be the guitar player that you want to be!
Theory Lessons:
- Form an understanding of how harmony works in jazz, from basic major scale harmony to more complex concepts.
- Intermediate to advanced guitarists may be looking to 'spice' up their playing - expanding their knowledge of music theory is great for this.
- Not instrument specific - those who are perhaps new to music theory or want to develop their existing knowledge regardless of instrument are welcome.
