About Iris

I grew up in a musical environment, therefore it didn’t take long for me to start learning music. I have been studying music for 16 years nows. At 9 years old, I started my musical education after auditioning and getting into the Oporto Music Conservatoire in Portugal. There, I got the opportunity to study and develop knowledge around various subjects such as: Music Theory, Classical Music and Guitar; Jazz Music, Jazz Vocals, Choir and Jazz Piano. I still felt the need to learn more so I moved to London at the age of 18 to study Popular music Performance - Vocals at BIMM London, where I graduated with a First Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree.

Recently, I have been working as a session singer for a few musical projects but I also have my own rock band. We have played around London, including renowned venues such as O2 Academy Islington and O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. Additionally, I sing for Choir Noir who has done session work for bands like Bring me the Horizon, Architects, and Spiritbox. On the side, I started to work as a tutor for the University I graduated from as well as teaching privately.

My teaching style will depend on the age and ability of the student. I like to know the goals and focus points that each student wants to work on while also emerging them in music techniques that could be new, creative and important subjects for their musical development. I want every student to learn about vocal health and how to sing safely. This will allow them to try and challenge themselves into new sounds and vocal techniques while being creative and having fun.

I am motivated by the opportunity to see a student learn and develop new skills from class to class. I like to give students the chance to focus on their goals but to also learn new techniques and musical ideas while having fun and putting their creativity to test. I have always had a massive interest in music. I find fascinating how music can make you feel diverse and creative in many different levels, so I decided to start teaching and passing along my knowledge and enthusiasm as well as my passion towards music, vocal technique and expertise.
