About Iliana

Iliana is a violin and piano teacher based in Cambridge, who strongly believes that everyone has the potential to excel in a musical instrument.

Iliana began playing the violin and piano at age seven, and gave her first recital at the age of nine. She began learning both instruments through the Suzuki method in Cambridge, and went on to do her ABRSM Diploma in Music Performance for violin at the age of sixteen.

She has also performed in a variety of musical ensembles over the years, and taken leadership roles in orchestras. She completed a master’s degree in literature before deciding to return to all things violin and piano.

Iliana took on her first piano student as a teenager after taking Suzuki teacher training sessions. Iliana now has a lively young practice, teaching violin and piano from her home in Chesterton, Cambridge.

Iliana is a member of the European String Teachers Association, and the European Piano Teachers Association. She also has an Enhanced DBS.

Lessons and Approach:

For both violin and piano, I use the Suzuki Method books. These books start with a series of variations on ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’, and end, (for the violin), with a major classical concerto. The student learns a new skill with each piece, whilst playing repertoire they find enjoyable and motivating. I encourage parents of young children to attend the lessons as much as they can, in order to take notes for assisting with practice.

In my lessons, I break new each skill into a series of comprehensible and achievable steps. This ensures that the student feels motivated and sees progress each time. As the student progresses with their instrument, I incorporate elements of music theory and work on developing musicianship. Positivity, kindness, and enthusiasm are always at the heart of my teaching.
