About Ian

I started teaching whilst still a student at the Royal College of Music over 40 years ago. I subsequently worked as a performer, accompanist and teacher (peripatetic and private), before pursuing a Masters’ Degree (MMus) and then a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), both at the University of London. I then worked as a teacher of music at a boys’ comprehensive school in South East London for 21 years, teaching Music A Level (AQA), Music GCSE (Edexcel) and piano, as well as accompanying, coaching, conducting and directing a variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles.

I teach piano from beginner to music college/university level and beyond, including preparation for ABRSM and Trinity College of Music grade examinations. I can also offer the full GCSE Music (Edexcel) and A Level Music (AQA) courses, as well as tutoring for students taking other boards. I also teach music theory to those who wish to take ABRSM examinations, as well as general tutoring for GCSE and A Level students who need extra coaching with coursework/composition/Bach chorale harmonisation and so on.

I accept students from Year 6 upwards, either beginners or those with previous experience, and particularly welcome adult students too.
