About Ian

Releasing your natural sound, finding a comfortable place for breathing and singing, and having fun while doing all these things are the main areas Ian focuses on. Although he’s more interested in teaching classical repertoire, Ian takes a relaxed approach to teaching, ensuring it is enjoyable as well as being informative and helpful.

Ian is very happy to help prepare students for exams, suggesting repertoire, and accompanying if that appeals, as well as exploring popular music with students.

Ian has been teaching singing for over twenty years, starting his studio in New Zealand while living and working over there. He has worked with a range of students, from someone in a band who wanted to work on a healthier way to sing, to adults who wanted to sit exams or who were singing in a choir and wanting to work on improving their technique.

Ian's own singing experience spans from cathedral singing as a lay-clerk in both Chester and Toronto, and solo recitals spanning baroque, opera and contemporary works.
