About Jacqueline

A piano teacher of more than 20 years teaching experience and an accomplished concert pianist, with MMus in piano performance of Royal College of Music.

I have been a piano teacher and a faculty accompanist at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for 20 years. I set up Clarinetissimo with my husband in 2011, in which I am the music director, piano/aural/theory teacher and collaborative pianist. Usually my piano lesson includes some interactive activities like ear training, duet, theory and even singing/dancing sometimes. I am not an exam oriented teacher but I am familiar with ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall syllabus.

I studied piano performance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and obtained the Professional Diploma in piano accompaniment at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. I am a master degree holder of the Royal College of Music (London), where I studied piano performance with Andrew Ball and fortepiano with David Ward and won the Amadeus Fortepiano Prize in 2006. I was the recipient of the RCM Hong Kong Scholarship and the British Council Chevening Scholarship.

I have performed with clarinetist Johnny Fong at Carnegie Hall in 2009. Since then I have been an active soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. I played Shostakovitch's Piano Concerto No. 2 with Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra in 2013. And I played for the CD album “Breeze Kisses My Face — The Choral Music of Jan Tien-hao” on The Modern Audio label, which received the IFPI Hong Kong top sales music award in 2014. As a keyboard player, I played in  musical "The Phantom of the Opera" world tour in 2015, “Wicked” world tour in 2016-17, and “Evita” in 2018.

I am honoured to have private lessons with Maria João Pires in 2020.

For young beginners, I usually use "Alfred's basic piano prep course". Here is what I try to teach in each lesson:

-Lesson book with CD (for basic knowledge)

- Theory book (easy homework/classwork. Colouring or circle only. No need to write much)

-Notespeller (optional. To be done at home)

- Technic book (exercises that match with the piece I teach from lesson book)

-Activity & ear training book (listening exercises that are related to what I teach from Lesson book)

- Solo book (for fun, usually its tunes from Disney/cartoon etc)
