About Gordon Robertson

Gordon splits his time evenly between being a one-to-one vocal coach/lecturer, piano and 'cello teacher and also being a full-time performer. He has taught the Estill Vocal Training model to hundreds of students over the last 6 years and knows it inside-out, having also previously studied opera at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His current performance experience helps him to give his students the most industry-accurate information and coaching to prepare them for their own performances.

Gordon really enjoys working with students of all standards, especially complete beginners who find pitching more challenging. He has lots of experience helping people who've been told they are tone-deaf to learn completely accurate tuning. Gordon's experience teaching the scientifically proven vocal technique model, Estill, helps him to work efficiently, quickly and advise singers with vocal issues, as well as to adapt his coaching to any genre that his students want to sing.

He truly views his students' gains as his own, and would also consider himself a belt-specialist. It is one of the most difficult voice qualities to teach, but one of the most exciting and rewarding when students achieve it. With a real focus on acting through song on-top, he's able to provide an all-encompassing vocal performance training to students of any age and any level.

Gordon's instrumental skills stand him out among his contemporaries, fully proficient in piano and guitar for accompanying his own students, and also for teaching those instruments. His first instrument was actually 'cello, and Gordon regularly coaches 'cello students through graded music exams with very high marks. His approach to music is adaptable to the needs and favourite genres of the student. Whilst happy to teach piano and 'cello classically, Gordon is equally happy to teach improvisation and how to read chord charts/symbols; often a more useful and employable skill in today's music industry.

Outside of his musical interests, Gordon is a keen tennis player, loves history and languages, and enjoys travelling (outside of pandemics)!
