About Georgia
My love for music and for the violin and viola was ignited by wonderful teachers at the Bromley Youth Music Trust and the Royal Academy of Music, and I now consider it a huge privilege to dedicate my professional life to nurturing and developing musicians of all ages.
I have a violin performance Diploma from the ABRSM and was principal viola with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. I later studied the viola with James Sleigh, gaining a BMus degree from the Royal Academy of Music, and have performed as part of a six-piece band at venues around the country, supporting bands such as McFly and Keane, and recording at Abbey Road Studios.
I have experience of teaching in individual, group and youth orchestra settings, and in addition to my private teaching, I have worked for Wandsworth Music Service, Dulwich Preparatory School, Chinthurst School, Hazlewood School and The Belham Primary School. I have taught at every level, from beginner to diploma standard and I enjoy teaching children and adults of all ages. For several years I also worked as a violin and viola specialist at Stringers in London which gave me a deep understanding of stringed instruments and the needs of young string players.
I am inspired by the work of Paul Harris, and by other committed teachers I have worked with, and I love to bring imagination, creativity and excitement to my lessons. It is of course my role as a music teacher to develop the instrumental skills which could lead to great musical adventures for my pupils, but perhaps even more importantly, I aim to use music to teach resilience, growth mindset, problem solving and a sense of fun, all the extra musical, transferable skills, which are vital to life and learning.
We all know that practice makes progress (not perfect!) so I expect my students to work hard to achieve their goals and to keep the focus on the journey rather than the destination.
Whether you’re a parent looking for a teacher for your child, a university student wanting to continue your musical journey, or an adult seeking fresh motivation, I would be delighted to hear from you and to make music with you!
