About Gemma

Gemma is an experienced cello teacher based in Edinburgh. She is a patient and friendly tutor who is extremely enthusiastic about music education and the importance of developing a pupil’s lifelong interest in music.

Teaching Style
She has a wealth of experience teaching pupils of all ages, working with groups, paired or individual lessons and is focussed on pacing the lessons to suit each individual student’s learning. Whilst Gemma is skilled at creating paths of progression and takes her pupils’ learning very seriously, she is also motivated to create fun and relaxed, positive lessons and succeeds in giving her pupils the confidence to be the best musical versions of themselves.

Examinations
Gemma has been guiding pupils through exams for as long as she has been teaching, with a track record of 100% pass rate. She is here to support and help you decide whether exams (ABRSM/Trinity) are the best option for you. If you decide to enter for an examination, Gemma will provide weekly lessons on repertoire, scales, sight reading and aural tests. She will always go the extra mile to secure a successful experience for her pupils.

Teaching Experience
Gemma teaches pupils of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Whilst in London, Gemma worked alongside many fantastic musicians at Music Masters and Questor’s Young Musician’s Club. She was involved in weekly group, paired and individual lessons, preparing pupils for school concerts and ABRSM/Trinity examinations. Alongside her experience with younger age groups, Gemma has experience working with adults, recently being invited to coach at the NLMS Music Summer school. There, she conducted cello sectionals and played in the course final concert alongside her pupils on the course. During lockdown, Gemma began teaching a private online studio of pupils from across the UK and has helped achieved some very successful exam results and school concerts.

Performance Experience
Following her graduation from the Royal Academy of Music in London, 2018, Gemma has performed across the UK and Internationally with Orchestras and Musical Theatre tours. Throughout her career, Gemma has performed on the West End, worked on recording sessions with Universal Music, Mahogany, and Apple TV, and is a regular performer with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the London Contemporary Orchestra.
