About Fraser
Fraser is a 1st Class Honours graduate in Popular Music from The Royal Northern College of Music. Since graduating he has built a career as a full-time bassist fluent in all genres. Previously, Fraser has taught as part of The Rock Project (Isle of Man) and facilitated one-to-one lessons of varying proficiency levels on the bass guitar. He also teaches music theory as well as music production classes (recording and mixing); which are available separately or in conjunction with practical tuition. Fraser has had lessons from Rob Mularkey (Jacob Collier), Dave Swift (Jools Holland), Simon Goulding (The Temptations, The Real Thing), and Richard Hammond (Sister Sledge, JP Cooper).
First, Fraser would discuss what you would like to achieve from the lessons and decide on a main focus. Whether that be; playing technique, sight-reading, creating and interpreting charts, music theory and its practical applications on bass, or, just geeking out over a piece of equipment that your favourite bass player has and identifying why they chose it and whether it would be right for you.
You can also do practice auditions for music colleges and conservatories, having been through it, Fraser can give you an in-depth idea of what they will ask of you.
He would always suggest that we look at your foundations first and make sure your technique is strong and consistent. Poor technique can lead to difficulty playing lines correctly and even injury.
Fraser has also a thorough understanding of Grade exams having completed his grade 8 Rock & Pop Trinity exam at 17 and also Grade 5 Theory. You may hate theory but there are helpful tips and tricks for most things!
Please let Fraser know if you are interested, he welcomes all levels of ability.
Thanks!
